Squirrel Congress

A Medium of the Minds

Origins

Squirrel Congress celebrates local culture by facilitating quirky experiences and productions in order to strengthen our community through partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits.

Squirrel Congress is a medium of the minds that currently facilitates Cortez Ghost Tours. These tours celebrate local history with a spooky and kooky flair while giving back to the community. In October 2023, we received a grant from the LOR Foundation, funding our Halloween debut. We sold out our entire premiere weekend and all of our proceeds were donated to The Sunflower Theatre. In December of 2023, we were officially onboarded under the fiscal sponsorship of Onward! A Legacy Foundation.

For the 2024 season, we expanded our tours to offer 3 series. We held a series of tours in May to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month in which we announced a new partnership with the Montezuma Heritage Museum. In August, we celebrated the Cortez Rendezvous Balloon Rally with our second series of tours. Our final series of tours was held during the spooky season in October. We also expanded our popsicle production with the launch of Ghost Pops, funded by the LOR Foundation. This project increased our connections with and support of local growers using local produce to concoct all-natural popsicles which were sold at the Cortez Farmer's Market and Third Thursday events.

Our goal is to generate enough money through our projects to donate regularly to local nonprofits. It is important to us that we work closely with Cortez nonprofits as well as supporting and collaborating with local businesses. We aim to bring fun and flavor to Cortez through unique experiences, so Cortez Ghost Tours  and Ghost Pops are just

the beginning!

Philanthropy

As part of our mission, Squirrel Congress donates a portion of our proceeds to local nonprofits. We cover our expenses, then spread the love to local organizations who care for our community on a daily basis.
